Finally, an update..:)

So this is my first post as a non - Blue Heights member, but as a Blue Heights (and St. Scho) alumna. Haven't had any school paper involvement yet in college, although I am happy with my life in that school where the Blue Eagles fly. :)

Went to St. Scho earlier today, for some yearbook agenda. I must say, going back elicited pretty good feelings (although a while ago was not my first time to do so). Not necessarily the best, (or the worst), but the idea that you get to go back to the school that pretty much made you -- and getting to see again the teachers, remaining students, buildings, etc. that were part of your life for so many years -- thrilled me, and gave me much more than thrill once I was there. It wasn't overly joyous, but it was enough to make me feel more like myself again.

Last I've heard, Blue Heights will be having something like a coffee table book for its next issue to be released before the year ends, with selected literary and artistic content. Hm, interesting....

I'd love to hear from you, guys.!

Well, if you still haven't heard it on primetime news.. here it is, from inquirer.net :

Marikina school suspends classes due to bomb threat

MANILA, Philippines—Classes in St. Scholastica’s Academy in Marikina were suspended by the school’s administrators after they received a telephoned bomb threat Wednesday morning.

Marikina’s chief of police Superintendent Sotero Ramos, who personally inspected the school’s premises on West Drive, Marikina Heights, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that police found no bomb on the campus and that the threat was a hoax.

“A section-by-section inspection of the area gave negative results for bombs,” said Ramos.

Ramos said the secretary of the high school principal received a phone call about an alleged bomb in the school at around 10:45 a.m.
The administrators initially had the school’s maintenance and security people search the premises but decide to call in the police around noon, Ramos said, adding that the responding police SWAT team found no explosive.

Nevertheless, Ramos said, St. Scholastica’s directress ,Sr. Rosevy* Balagat, decided to suspend classes at noon for both grade school and high school students as a precautionary measure.

*wrong spelling, it's Roseve, actually.

Man, that was traumatic!
Can you believe our bags are still there? I wonder what it's like to go to school bringing only yourself and finding your belongings in the classroom. Ha!

Still, it absolutely wasn't a good feeling...imagine hearing an announcement to go for lunch, leave your things, and go home from the school head herself..and join in a brief community prayer by Bro. Ed afterwards. And all the people panicking, crying, rushing for the phone booths, and halting the moment Ms. Gabor talks via PA.

That was NOT a good joke. I hope I get over it soon. As well as the rest of the school.

For me and my batchmates, at least. This is the first post for SY 2008-2009.

Update on random things:

1. Blue Heights practically the same*.
2. Happy Feast Day! New one: Celebration was whole day, with shortened period. Manualia, of course. (Sharing: St. Veronica's ordeal -- first ever swimming class for our section, for only 30 mins..and dressing up for the Mass -- yes, gala-- in the shower room. I'm not a Girl Scout, you know?)
3. On July 9, St. Scho's delegates flew to Sydney, Australia for the International Benedictine Youth Conference and World Youth Day. They'll be back by third week of July.
4. Retreat for seniors will be for two nights, three days, still at St. Scholastica's Center of Spirituality Tagaytay.

*moderators the same. Ed Board:
EIC: yours truly ;)

In my SEA 30 class, our Slughorn-ish professor asked everybody to introduce him-/herself, complete with the degree program/non-major status and high school background. We listened to everybody speak, and it was a good orientation (at least in my point of view). This is how he interrogated me:

Prof: And you are?
Me: *Jean Leyva, 1st year, BS Tourism.
Prof: And you'd like to be called..?
Me: Jean.
Prof: You don't like Andrea? Rea? Andy?
Me: No.
Prof: Which high school?
Me: St. Scholastica's Marikina.
Prof: St. Scho Marikina? Oh. You like Marist boys, and you think OLOPSC and MaSci boys are jologs.

You know, I always had the impression that St. Scho goes with Marist the way Miriam HS goes with some Ateneo HS people. I so blame the flirts and b*tch*s in St. Scho for tainting the name of the school and the alumnae. If all those girls didn't flirt and flirt with their boyfriends (and non-boyfriends) in McDo, then maybe the "better people" wouldn't be branded with flirty images that can permanently damage a person's collective memory. My boy friends in that class laughed at me. I wasn't humiliated, actually.

Just irritated.

*Never mind my name.

I went to CnB the other day, I saw some people. The new sportsfest shirt is saner, so good for the younger Kulasas. But I thought there was a rule about no make-up or orange elastics or something? Is it now being abused?

Anyway I met Mrs. Adigue at NBS express. Thinner, than I last saw her, but wtf, she's still her same old, --

likeable

-- self.

It went like this:

"Hi Mrs. Adigue."

"Uy, hello. Pumayat ka."

I just nodded.

Then she smiled. Like her old self.

"How are you po?"

"Pumayat din."

I just looked at her, not knowing what to say next.

"Saan ka nga pala nag-aaral?"

"UP po." I glanced at my maroon ID strap, only too visible against my white-transparent blouse. It was even entwined with my long, silver necklace.

"Anong course mo?"

"Tourism."

She raised her eyebrows.

I turned my attention to the cashier, because it was my turn to pay my items. Just the usual black Pilot and some cartolinas for my homework. Then she moved towards the glass door.

"Sige po."

She raised her eyebrows in farewell.

I think.

Aren't fat/thin and old/young comments too shallow for greetings? Except when there's a drastic change, maybe then it would be fine with me. It could've been better if she told me how the faculty was, but all the same, thank God she didn't.

And I thought the embroidered University of the Philippines was so obvious when it isn't twirling. Or are St. Scho faculty members just blind? I had the same experience with Mrs. Dayag, but with her, it was with super bright lights inside Rustans.

Perhaps that's why I don't miss St. Scho that much anymore. And not entirely. I just miss the Blue Heights room, and Shayne.

Whoa, it's 2008.

Ho-hum. Ditto everything Sheana said regarding Blue Heights.

Aw, reminding me of the RSSPC is like...har. Still, Scholasticans rule. *wink*

Yes, Christmas break is sort of a bummer (but of course, Christmas break is still Christmas break). One word: schoolwork.

But still, I have time.

It's what makes my life tick. Oh, along with music and in depth optimism.
Life is good. I just know it. We know it.

Pardon the thoughts.
They're absolutely wack, I know.
Whatta harangue I'm in.

The real thing:

Well, okay, Blue Heights will be a newsmag now.
Hope it comes out well.

Here's to 2008! For the Philippines, SSAM, Blue Heights. And the world.

Pat texted me, saying that the Regionals will be held at SSAM. Nov. 26/27.

When I was still in the confines of St. Scho, I always wondered if the nuns would ever, ever, ever consider holding any public event in their precious school. I always thought about it during the press cons, when I soo basked in the freedom outside the campus.

I just came home from the SSAMAA meeting. And guess what. Kaka was elected Secretary! *snigger* :))

Meanwhile, I will officially carry her bag, wipe her sweat, put an umbrella over her head, pick up her fallen papers, shine her shoes, run around after her, you get the idea. :))

But everything went great. Tita Titchy was just the best. She encouraged all of us to become active and help with the association. It was really heartening. :)

I've been thinking about the fund-raising project--

(I will be able to apply my management subjects here, and I must definitely join a marketing association in UP. Ecotour! ü)

-- that we're going to do for the Alum Assoc. Hmm. There were suggestions for concerts, membership cards, selling of Benedictine souvenirs and all. If you're reading this, please help us in any way you can. I'll post about anything that we finalize. :)

SSAM Alumnae Meeting on October 14, Sunday. Do come. Dra. Titchy Ignacio (SSAMAA President) requests your attendance. We will be planning for the Grand Alumnae Homecoming in February 2008, and the election of officers.

(Lunch ahead, I think.)

And it'll be nice to visit St. Scho. See, they have new benches on the brick road, and the boys' house is now air-conditioned. Among other things. :P

Macky's alright. I was able to talk to her almost an hour after reading that message. No worries, then.

Since Shayne needs it. Here:

Banner.Collapse )

Save it.

The school logo is with the IT or the printing press. They usually ask for floppies, so Shayne, bring one when you go there.

I don't think I like your moderators very much. They sound a bit sick to me.
